1.2.3

Why I cannot retake the test within 12 months?

A genuinely accurate personality test has to be taken (and scored) in a standardised manner. The sample of people against whom your scores will be compared only took the test a single time. We have to make the conditions under which you take the test as similar to those of the comparison group as possible, and that means only having you take it once, as well. Furthermore, if you take the test, and then look at your results, and then re-take it, your second results will be subject to biases introduced by your now-expanded knowledge of your personality. That means you will change your responses, in all likelihood, and distort your answers..

1.2.3

What if I want to see if my personality has changed?

Personality is quite stable. While it’s possible to change a trait or aspect of your personality through hard work, this process takes months or years, not days or weeks. Therefore, it’s best to avoid retaking the test too soon. Instead, focus on reflecting on the feedback and try the test again after a year.

Who am I being compared to when the percentiles are generated, and why?

Your Smartability Assessment report is created after you answer our carefully-devised 200 or so questions. Your responce is compared with those of thousands of others.

1.2.3

What if I disagree with the results, or feel that they do not accurately represent my personality?

Remember that this self-report test is scored comparatively using statistical processes. Your descriptions have been compared to many others. If you do not consider the results accurate (especially if they describe negative personality traits), it is possible that you were overly critical when answering the questions. This is more likely if you are self-critical, experiencing a negative mood, depressed, hungry, or ill. Traits and aspects should be considered collectively rather than individually. For instance, you may be very or extremely high in Agreeableness. This feedback may indicate that you struggle to assert yourself and prioritise others’ feelings. However, if you are also high in Outspoken (an aspect of Extraversion) and/or low in Emotionality, you are more likely to express your wants and needs than an agreeable person who is low in the former and high in the latter. Low conscientiousness can impact academic and managerial/administrative success. However, if you have a high IQ and low Emotionality, your chances of success increase substantially. Additionally, you could be low in conscientiousness but high in Openness to Experience and succeed as a creative individual or entrepreneur. Second, remember that the traits and aspects have to be considered in combination, rather than singly. So, for example, you might be very or extremely high in Agreeableness. You therefore received feedback on the report stating that you have a hard time standing up for yourself, and are generally more concerned with the feelings and desires of other people. However, if you are also high in Outspoken (an aspect of Extraversion) and/or low in Emotionality then you are more likely to say what you want and put your needs forward than an agreeable person low in the former and high in the latter. If you are low in Conscientiousness, you are less likely to be successful in school and in managerial and administrative jobs—but if you have a high IQ and a low score in Emotionality then your chances of success rise substantially. Furthermore, you could be low in Conscientiousness but high in Openness to Experience and be successful as a creative person or entrepreneur.
